After outcry across U.S., white father, son arrested in shooting death of black man Ahmaud Arbery

Georgia authorities arrested a white father and son Thursday and charged them with murder in the February shooting death of a black man they had pursued in a truck after spotting him running in their neighbourhood. The charges came more than two months after Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was killed on a residential street just outside the port city of Brunswick. National outrage over the case swelled this week after cellphone video that appeared to show the shooting. Those close to Arbery celebrated the news but also expressed frustration at the long wait. “This should have occurred the day it happened,” said Akeem Baker, one of Arbery’s close friends in Brunswick. “There’s no way without the video this would have occurred. I’m just glad the light’s shining very bright on this situation.” Gregory McMichael, 64, previously told police that he and his son chased after Arbery because they suspected him of being a burglar. Arbery’s mother, Wanda Cooper Jones, has said she thinks her son, a former foo...

Bayern Munich  have made  Manchester City  an offer of £35million to sign Leroy Sane, according to reports. The winger has been a long-term target for the German giants and they were keen to bring him to the Allianz Arena last summer only for him to suffer a horror injury in the Community Shield. Sane has not played since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in that clash but he was back in training before the  coronavirus  shutdown. Bayern are hoping to take advantage of a potential fall in the transfer market to pay considerably less than the £88m they had earmarked for him last summer. According to German outlet  Bild , they have agreed a contract with the 24-year-old – which had to happen again after he changed agents last season – and are now looking to come to terms with City. Bayern's opening bid of £35m is £11m less than City paid Schalke for Sane when they signed him in 2016. The Bavarian side have an advantage as Sane is heading into the final y...

The high death toll could increase political pressure on Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who waited longer than other European leaders to order a lockdown to curb the spread of the virus in March. Weekly figures from Britain's national statistics office added more than 7,000 deaths in England and Wales, raising the total for the United Kingdom to 32,313. The figure is one of several methods for calculating deaths and is difficult to compare with other countries, but it offers the clearest sign yet that Britain could emerge as the worst-hit country in Europe, despite being hit later than other countries. Opposition parties have raised questions about Johnson...

Manchester United fans react angrily to new Dean Henderson rumour

Manchester United fans don't want to see Dean Henderson  loaned out again next season following the conclusion of his spell with Sheffield United. Henderson played a starring role in the Blades' successful promotion bid last year and has proven himself in the premier league  sitting joint-second in the clean sheets table prior to the postponement of the season. The 23-year-old was expected to win a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad for EURO 2020 before the tournament was rescheduled for next year. With David de gea  form waning in recent months, Henderson has been tipped to compete for the number one jersey at Old Trafford and MEN Sport understand the goalkeeper only wants to return to the club if he will definitely be first choice. ESPN report United will resist any offers for the goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window and will look to send him out on loan for another season as they continue to plan for his long-term future at the club.

Home loan redraw facilities allow borrowers to make extra mortgage payments and either use the money to pay off their loan quicker or draw down cash later on. Customers who have flooded the bank’s Facebook page with complaints appeared to have been caught by surprise by the move. “The money we lost is actually my husband’s redundancy payment as he was retrenched last week,” one customer, said in a post to the page last week.
